About

Gary Kirsten Gary Kirsten
As a young boy Gary Kirsten had one of the best houses for a cricket lover. His father Noel was the ground superintendent at Newlands, one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world. The Kirsten house bordered the ground making studying for exams difficult.

As a young man and playing for the University of Cape Town Gary had the good fortune of being coached by Duncan Fletcher who did what every coach should do - believed in him.

Remembering the effect that Fletcher had on him, Kirsten says "He made me believe I was good enough to play for Western Province. Until then I'd never thought about it seriously. I played cricket hard but basically for fun and the after-match parties. Duncan encouraged me to take my batting more seriously and give up the offbreaks, which were hopeless anyway."

It wasn't long before he was called to Melbourne in 1993 to play his international debut against Australia. Thus started a remarkable career where Gary picked up a number of records along the way.

The first South African to reach 100 tests and 20 centuries, at the time of his retirement he had 21 centuries and 34 fifties in Test cricket and 13 centuries and 45 fifties in limited-overs internationals to his name. Those figures were, at the time, all South African records.

As of writing he holds the record for highest innings by a South African in a one-day international; 188 not-out made against the United Arab Emirates in 1996, which is the fourth highest innings of all time in One Day International cricket.

Gary now wants to share what he has learned from more than 10 years of international cricket as a coach and mentor to younger players.

Living in Cape Town, he is married to Deborah and has one son Joshua.

Working with Paddy I learnt more about myself and I have been able to make better choices as a result.

Dale Williams
Dale Williams
Dale has wide experience ranging from an executive level at Standard Chartered Bank to starting a business with  two phone books, a computer and an empty office which, with his partners, he later sold to a JSE listed company. Most recently he headed up the Retail Bank for Standard Chartered in South Africa.

He brings an inherent understanding of people and cultures which was informed from his work in AIESEC* where at a young age he was selected to work on the International Secretariat based in Brussels Belgium and travelled widely around the world. At the time AIESEC members spanned 800 universities in 80 countries.

In 2002 he was fortunate to be afforded the opportunity to be in the pioneer group of a Masters Degree (MA) in Executive Coaching which was accredited through Middlesex University. This afforded Dale the opportunity to bring together his life experience and to build a model for Executive Coaching.

During this time he created a methodology for using Scenario Planning in coaching which he still uses as part of his coaching model. Commenting on this, Clem Sunter said, "This is a unique application of the methodology of Scenario Planning; but the idea of looking at the future through a prism of possibilities is as relevant to an individual as to a business."

Dale's primary belief is that Executive Coaching happens at the intersection between private and business life and that  awareness is paramount for coaching to be effective.

He is retired from corporate life and has business interests which compliment his coaching practice. He is married to Dee who is an attorney and together they live in Cape Town with their beautiful daughters Amy and Nina.

Updated information on Dale is available at his personal web site: http://www.connecteddale.com

"I would like to thank you for your hard work and commitment in leading the Consumer Bank team through a very difficult period in South Africa.  Your management skills were severely tested and I believe you came through the experience with flying colours. Good luck in the future."
